Rostock, 15 March 2010 – Double gold for A-ROSA Flussschiff GmbH. The Rostock shipping company won through twice in the Kreuzfahrt Guide Award given for the second time at this year’s ITB travel industry convention in Berlin. The luxury Rhine cruise ship A-ROSA AQUA secured victory in the “River Cruise Ship of the Year” category, while the “e-hoi Public Vote Award” from the Internet operator e-hoi.de in the “River Cruise Ships” category was won by the Danube cruise ship A-ROSA MIA. These awards were based on an assessment of both ships’ overall performance – from dining and cabins to the excursions programme and service.
TV and radio presenter Uwe Bahn and Dr Johannes Bohmann, Editor-in-Chief of the Kreuzfahrt Guide, co-hosted the much-coveted “Cruise Oscars” ceremony and presented both prizes to A-ROSA Flussschiff GmbH.
During the celebratory awards ceremony at the Hamburg Tourismus GmbH stand on 12 March, cruise ships that had excelled through outstanding service in the growing cruise market were honoured in six different categories and distinguished as “Ships of the Year”. Based on the assessments of the annual publications “Kreuzfahrt Guide 2010” and “Flussreisen Guide 2009” from the Hamburg publisher Bellevue and More, 25 out of around 120 vessels surveyed were nominated by a ten-man jury of experts and chosen in a secret ballot. A first-time award in all categories was also the “e-hoi Public Vote Award”, which was based on 4,000 client evaluations from the Internet operator www.e-hoi.de during the course of 2009. A special jury prize for the “Cruise Idea of the Year” went to Udo Lindenberg for his “Rock Liner” idea on TUI Cruises' “Mein Schiff”.
“We are really delighted about this double award for our ships, because it is a powerful vindication of our popular A-ROSA philosophy”, said Jörg Boeckmann, Director of Sales & Marketing at A-ROSA Flussschiff GmbH. “With A-ROSA AQUA and our expansion onto the Rhine, we have crossed an important milestone in the development of our brand and we are proud that today’s prize for the AQUA reflects this”, added Chief Operating Officer Markus Zoepke.
On 26 March the shipping company will be launching its second Rhine ship, the A-ROSA VIVA, in Basel. A third sister ship has just been commissioned, subject to the final financing commitment. If all goes to plan, the A-ROSA BRAVA should go into service in April 2011. With its four Danube and two Rhône ships, the modern A-ROSA fleet will then have a total of nine luxury river cruise ships.
