Bussm, The Netherlands (July 28, 2011) – Waterland is pleased to announce the final closing of its fifth institutional fund, Waterland Fund V (“WPEF V”), at €1.1 billion, just five months after its initial launch. The support of existing investors combined with significant interest from new investors, caused the fund to be well oversubscribed, surpassing its initial target of €900 million.
WPEF V has attracted commitments from world class investors from the United States (39% of the fund), Europe (36% of the fund) and Asia Pacific (25% of the fund). Pension plans and sovereign wealth funds account for the majority of the investor base.
WPEF V expects to make control investments in quality companies in fragmented growth markets in the Benelux, Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH region) and Poland to finance organic and acquisitive growth. This is a continuation of the successful investment strategy applied to Waterland’s prior funds.
“We are pleased with the quality and diversity of the limited partners that have committed to our fund,” said Robert Thielen, Chairman. “The fundraising for WPEF V has been a success and we are grateful for the support of our existing investors and delighted with the caliber of new investors who have joined us in the partnership.”
